The Iloilo Mega Book Fair (IMBF), launched in 2018, is a Hubon Manunulat, JCI Metro Iloilo, and Kasingkasing Press initiative aimed at gathering annually West Visayan scholars in the fields of education, literary tourism, and creative industry.
This also aimed to discuss and promote the participation of scholars, artists, and writers, and to emphasize their key positions as cultural producers in the developing literary tourism in Western Visayas and in preserving West Visayan cultures.
The first Iloilo Mega Book Fair was held at the Festive Mall Iloilo on 8-11 November 2018. The book fair brought scholars, artists, and authors to promote and discuss the knowledge that comes from books produced locally, the publication history in Western Visayas, and the emerging art culture in Iloilo City.
The book fair laid emphasis on the importance of local communities as consumer of our own cultural knowledge and cultural discoveries.
The second Iloilo Mega Book Fair is once again happening on 8-11 November 2019. This time in partnership with the City Tourism Office of Iloilo, Iloilo City Public Library, Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), and Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Art (ILOMOCA) to acknowledge the importance of collaboration with the local public government institutions and other private sectors.
This year’s Iloilo Mega Book Fair’s theme is “Labaw sa Aton Kaugalingon” (Beyond Ourselves), which highlights literature in all aspects including children’s rights, teachers and librarian education, history, heritage, film, comics, food culture, environment, and artists’ rights.
